  • Name: Assim AlAbdulKader, MD
  • Undergraduate/Medical School: University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia
  • Assim joined the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Dammam as a teaching assistant. He is interested in preventive medicine, clinical research, and medical education. Assim has led and participated voluntarily in health awareness campaigns in Saudi Arabia. He served as an resident  in Preliminary Medicine at UH-CWRU and believes that Family Medicine is the backbone of a "healthy" health system. Assim chose the FM Residency Program at UH-CMC/CWRU for the opportunity to help the underserved population, very supportive faculty, and strong academic reputation. He enjoys running, swimming, and hanging out with his family and friends in his free time.

  • Something that has always been important to Jarius is physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Since he was still in high school he made a point to regularly engage in some type of physical activity, whether it be jogging, weight-training, playing sports or dance. He firmly believes that a healthy diet and an regular physical activity will help one to reduce stress, fight illness, and stay positive, which is why he always encourages those around him to make choices that promote a healthier lifestyle. Jarius appreciates working in the primary care setting because it gives him the opportunity to meet with members of the community who have not yet developed severe illness or disability, and hopefully through proper motivation he may help them address the changes they need to spend less time in the hospital and more time with their friends and family.

  • Medical School: Ross University School of Medicine
  • Nadia is originally from Freeport, Bahamas and comes to the UHCMC Family Medicine Program from Miami, Florida. She chose our program because she enjoys working with underserved patient populations in an urban setting; she wants to continue to foster her academic background in a strong academic setting and the warm and friendly environment among the residents. She is interested in international medicine particularly communicable and non-communicable disease that are prevalent in the Caribbean Diaspora. In her spare time she loves to travel, enjoys the theatre, the ballet, art shows, watching University of Miami Hurricane and NY Giant football games, spending time with family and friends, salsa dancing and relaxing on white sandy beaches in the Bahamas.
  • Name: Samira Ghaniwala, MD
  • Undergraduate/Medical School: Ziauddin Medical College
  • Samira was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Karachi, Pakistan.   Her passions include Women's Health, Geriatrics, and care of the medically underserved.   In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring Cleveland's diverse food scene.
  • Name: Lauren Kreiger, MD
  • Undergraduate School: State University of New York at Albany
  • Medical School: University of Vermont College of Medicine
  • Lauren comes to our UHCMC Family Medicine Program from Cragsmoor, NY. She received a BS in Human Biology and a BA in Information Studies from the State University of New York at Albany. She went on to pursue a Masters of Public Health at SUNY Albany concentrating in Health Policy and Management and worked for the New York State Department of Health on Home and Community Based Medicaid waiver programs for children. Following her MPH she attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Her professional interests include preventative medicine, care of the undeserved, women's health, behavioral health and health policy advocacy. In her free time she enjoys hiking, running, yoga and musical theater.
  • Name: Lorella Luezas, MD
  • Undergraduate/Medical School: Universidad Cientifica del Sur
  • Lorella comes to our UHCMC Family Medicine program from Lima, Peru where she was born and graduated medical school. She chose our Family Medicine program for the opportunity to join a leading academic institution that serves an underserved population with numerous medical and social challenges. She especially appreciates this aspect of UH, as it is very similar to the population she treated in Peru's health care system. Prior to joining us, she did research on the behavioral aspects of obesity at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO, as she is passionate about solving this public health issue. Additionally, Lorella is interested in pursuing Global Health and Integrative Medicine while serving underserved Latino populations. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, stand-up paddle boarding in Lake Erie, practicing yoga, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

  • Medical School: University of Texas Southwestern Medical School
  • Grant comes to the UHCMC Family Medicine program from Utopia, TX, his hometown, by way of Dallas, TX. He is especially excited to work with the diverse patient population served by University Hospitals, and to take advantage of the innumerable resources afforded by such a premier academic institution. His professional interests include maternal child health, palliative care and global health, and his personal interests include music and film.

  • Leyya comes to our UHCMC residency program from her hometown of Dallas, TX where she attended UT Southwestern Medical School. She chose this residency program because of its educational excellence, strong academic setting, and diverse patient population. Her career interests include taking care of the underserved and those with limited access to medical care. In her free time, she enjoys playing co-op video games with her husband, trying new foods, traveling, and baking.

  • Leandria comes to our UHCMC Family Medicine program as a proud Cleveland native and graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. She chose our family medicine residency program because of its excellence in clinical education, the numerous opportunities for career development, and its dedication to community health. As the recipient of the Ohio Primary Care Grant, Leandria plans to remain in Cleveland to practice medicine in urban and underserved areas of the city. She has interests that include women's health, alternative medicine, community health literacy, and sustainable global health endeavors. Of personal note, she enjoys most any kind of dancing (especially salsa), cooking, independent films, and travel!

Brandi Alexander MD

  • Undergraduate School: Vanderbilt University
  • Medical School: Meharry Medical College
  • Brandi is from Union City, TN, but spent most of her time in the great city of Nashville for undergrad at Vanderbilt University and medical school at Meharry Medical College. So far her time in Cleveland has been great! She loves traveling, game nights, meeting new people, trying new foods, and working out. Professionally, she has always been interested in women's health and adolescent medicine. Over the next three years at UH, she hopes to expand upon her knowledge, pursue those interests, and create ways to incorporate them into her future daily practice.

  • Medical School: Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University
  • Amina comes to our Family Medicine program from Chicago, home of the White Sox and the Cubs.   She loves movies (her favorite  movie was previously "The  Truth About Cats and Dogs," but now she doesn't have a favorite); she loves music; and she loves traveling, a lot.   Her favorite place to visit is Nigeria, her motherland (apart from Chicago).  Her interests include Global Health, Women's Health, Integrative Medicine, and Public Health. She will be completing her MPH as part of the Preventive Medicine Residency.
James Ferguson MD

  • Medical School: St. George's University
  • James Ferguson grew up on Long Island in New York, and received his BA and MPH at New York University, then attended medical school at St. George's University in the West Indies. He's done medical work in Honduras, Haiti, and Kenya. His hobbies include sailing, skiing, and scuba diving, and he's watched over 1100 movies and shows on Netflix.

Leah Johansen MD

  • Medical School: Trinity School of Medicine
  • Leah grew up in in a small town in northern Minnesota. She has always had an adventurous spirit, enjoyed sports and she spent many years in search of beautiful locations to play - be it in Thailand, Vietnam, Switzerland, Guatemala, Bolivia, Argentina or throughout the US. She has enjoyed these wonderful spots backpacking, snowboarding, kitesurfing, cycling, and running ultra marathons. She also enjoys integrative medicine and has spent many years working as a massage therapist, with everyone from NFL-rookies to former-Presidents. Her other interests include research, playing guitar, spinning poi, and enjoying the company of good people.

Nancy Li MD

  • Although she was born in Boston, Nancy considers Memphis, TN, her hometown. It's  where she grew up, and where her parents owned (and still work at!) a small Chinese restaurant. She left briefly for college at Vanderbilt (only 3 hours away!), then returned to Memphis for medical school at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. There she met her fiance, and during their 4th year of medical school, they embarked on the journey of couple's matching- they traveled all over, looking for a place with a strong FM program (for her!) as well as a strong neurology program (for him). They found that here, at UHCMC in Cleveland. She loves to bake, and loves to eat even more; she cannot wait to continue her foodie hobbies here in Cleveland!

  • Manny is from Lusaka, Zambia but has lived in Ann Arbor, MI for most of his adult life. He is generally regarding by his peers as being awesome at cycling and soccer.  He enjoys blogging about many topics, including the silent lead disaster in Cleveland, how to improve one's health through diet, and many other unrecognized medical problems in the United States.

David Feldman MD
  • Name:  David Feldman, MD
  • Undergraduate/Medical School:  American University of Antigua
  • David likes to bike, hike, run and snowboard. He has travelled to many different countries and he enjoys experiencing new cultures. He is considering going into sports medicine in the future.
Bradley Green MD
  • Name:  Bradley Green, MD
  • Undergraduate School: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 
  • Medical School: St. George's University
  • Brad is originally from North Carolina, born in Durham, and his family has moved to Maryland, Virginia, and back to NC. He worked as an EMT for 2 years prior to medical school, and loves interacting with patients in every walk of life. His wife Bethany is a Family Nurse Practitioner and is currently working at the Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis at the Cleveland Clinic. They met at church in North Carolina, and fell in love in part due to their mutual love for medicine. Their long term plan post-residency is to work overseas, possibly in Africa, and through the work of the global health department at UH with Dr. Morikawa, Brad hopes to get some exposure not just to overseas medical work, but to also view global health through the lens of caring for underserved patient populations here in Cleveland. Brad and Bethany enjoy dancing (swing), hiking, bike rides, and generally anything related to the outdoors, most of which can be found in and around the Cleveland area.

  • Michelle comes to our UHCMC residency program from New York, NY. She is excited to take advantage of the numerous resources offered by such a strong academic institution and to serve a diverse patient population. In her free time, Michelle enjoys traveling, running, biking, and trying new restaurants.
Samanza Quazi, MD

  • Samanza grew up in Bangladesh then moved to North America to complete her education. In the last 10 years she has lived in Canada, attended medical school in Grenada, continued 3rd and 4th yrs at a New York hospital and now comes to UHCMC to start at our residency program. Samanza plans to pursue a career in Adolescent Medicine. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and friends, try new and different cuisine and read books.

  • Drew comes to the UHCMC Family Medicine program from Worcester, MA. He is especially excited to work together with an awesome group of residents, attendings, and other staff at such an excellent academic institution serving a diverse population. His professional interests include addiction medicine and sports medicine, and his personal interests include exploring Cleveland, going to the gym, playing basketball, and streaming TV.

Wail Yar, MD
  • Name:  Wail Yar, MD
  • Undergraduate/Medical School: King Abdul Aziz University
  • Wail grew up and went to medical school in Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a teaching assistant at King Abdul Aziz University. He then pursued his Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Health Systems and Policy from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health; there he also pursued the Public Health Informatics certificate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as well as the Business in Health Care certificate from the Carey Business School. Wail is a health tech geek and has participated in multiple online and mobile preventive medicine projects such as Coronamap and Pathobook. He is eager to teach and create new tools which will improve the quality of care and engage patients in their healthcare decisions. His professional interests include biomedical informatics, personalized medicine, and integrative medicine. In his free time, Wail develops websites, writes blogs, and spend quality time with his kids.

  • Bartlomiej comes to our UHCMC Family Medicine program from Krakow, Poland. He was drawn to University Hospitals for its strong academic setting, the possibility of working with a diverse patient population, and the multitude of opportunities for research. In the future, he plans to work for the National Health Service Corps delivering healthcare to those who need it most, as well as serve on medical missions abroad. During his free time, he enjoys hiking, biking, running and cooking.
