University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program

Welcome - A Letter from Our Program Director, Sybil Marsh, MD

Thank you for your interest in University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program. We are a three year residency program located in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio, close to the Case Western Reserve University campus in University Circle and near Cleveland's major cultural institutions. Our residency program is the affiliate of the Case Western Reserve University Department of Family Medicine.

Our mission is to care for patients and communities by providing tomorrow’s family physicians with training, resources, experience and perspectives to nurture leaders in the field of Family Medicine. Our training emphasizes excellence in the care of complex and medically vulnerable patients, development of critical thinking skills and medical decision making, acquisition of primary care centered procedural skills, and professional development in an environment that promotes life-long learning.

Our department also boasts one of the most productive and varied Family Medicine research divisions nationally. We serve as the editorial home of the country's premier academic Family Medicine journal, the Annals of Family Medicine. A vibrant research infrastructure has helped interested residents develop and publish their projects.

During the three years of training, our residents meet milestones in their education and professional growth as their knowledge and wisdom evolves. Our residents participate in formal didactic programs, but more importantly, learn how to learn in a variety of clinical contexts using an array of resources. Opportunities for diverse experiences beyond the clinic and for reflexion enable career development as residents discover their interests and talents within the complex and compelling field of Family Medicine and Community Health.

We are pleased to offer this program to applicants with a heart for working with medically vulnerable patients in a variety of circumstances, an interest in both teamwork and leadership, and a commitment to both prevention and healing of illness and disease. Our faculty values working closely with our residents so that they leave us confident in their ability to provide high quality clinical care as they forge a satisfying and durable medical career.

We look forward to meeting you as you follow your path to an exciting and satisfying career in Family Medicine. Meanwhile, we hope you will enjoy the introduction to our residents and residency program our website provides.

All the best on your journey to Family Medicine!
