The annual WFSOM Spring Dinner was held on March 11, 2009, in the Allen Library at Case Medical School. The keynote speaker was Dr. Sharon Rounds, Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Providence VA Medical Center, and Past-President, American Thoracic Society. Dr. Olds presented, "Tips to Success in Academic Medicine", and provided faculty members with important insights into managing an academic career. It was an enjoyable evening for all with distinguished guests Provost Baeslack, Deputy Provost Lynn Singer, Ph.D., Dean Pamela Davis, M.D., Ph. D., and Vice President for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Marilyn Mobley, Ph. D., in attendance.
Dr. Anne Matthews, Chairperson of the WFSOM awards committee, announced the following award winners:
- Hue-Lee Kaung, Ph. D. received the Toyoka Yamashita, M.D. award for outstanding service to the WFSOM organization.
- The two recipients of the Junior Faculty Career Development Award
