Rita Beckford attended Case School of Medicine and
her interest in fitness and health was evidenced early in her
medical school career. During her first years in the School of
Medicine at Case, she enrolled in the Smoking Prevention/Cessation
elective offered by the Urban Area Health Education Center. Dr.
Beckford and her husband created a skit addressing the affects
of smoking and health. It was enacted at several elementary schools
in the Cleveland Municipal School District.

After weighing over 210 pounds following the birth of her son, Rita Beckford, MD decided to lose weight when her grandmother died of complications of diabetes. Having lost 80 pounds, she became a fitness instructor and produced a new wellness video to help others called

About Dr. B
Board certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Beckford received her Doctorate of Medicine at the Case School of Medicine. She also has a bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University. Double certified as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, she is an active professional member of the American Council on Exercise. Dr. Beckford serves as a health and wellness consultant across the country empowering people to lead healthy lives.
She is happily married to her medical school sweetheart, Dr. Ian G. Beckford, and has one adorable son, Kenneth Jordan. She resides just outside of Cleveland, Ohio.
When Dr. Beckford is not speaking across the country or conducting exercise workshops, she can be found traveling with her family, reading inspirational books or her absolute favorite indulgence: relaxing at a spa. Her newest hobby is creative writing, and a new novel is in the works for 2005!
