USMLE STEP 2 consists of two parts: clinical knowledge (CK) and clinical skills (CS). Together these exams assess whether students can apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science essential for the provision of patient care under supervision and includes emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. Step 2 ensures that due attention is devoted to principles of clinical sciences and basic patient-centered skills that provide the foundation for the safe and competent practice of medicine.
All students are required to take the USMLE Step 2 CK by January 31st of their intended year of graduation; the USMLE Step 2 CS should be be competed earlier, by November 1st of their final academic year. A passing score on USMLE Step 2 CK and CS are requirements for graduation.
