The Senior Associate Dean for Students, C. Kent Smith, MD, and the Associate Dean for Students, Robert Haynie, MD, PhD, are responsible for all student related activities in the School of Medicine.
Students are assigned to one of four Academic Societies upon matriculation and remain members of their assigned societies throughout their time as students. The Societies aim to foster close relationships and a sense of community among students. The Society Deans serve as mentors, helping students navigate the curriculum and providing advice and support for residency and career planning. All the Deans are actively involved in teaching.

Jennifer E. Hawkins (216.368.3442) is the financial administrator for the division of Medical Education and provides administrative support for the Office of Student Affairs.
Andrea Hinton (216.368.3164) is the Department Assistant for the Office of the Academic Societies. She provides direct administrative support and assists with student issues. She coordinates the schedules of Drs. McKinley, Ricanati, and Smith.
Una Surace (216.368.2831) is the Coordinator for the Office of the Academic Societies. She is responsible for the planning, design, and management of all programming of the Office of the Academic Societies.
Celena Townsend (216.368.2212) is the secretary for Dr. Haynie. She coordinates and schedules appointments for Dr. Haynie, as well as helping to troubleshoot and support all areas of the Student Affairs Office.

Joseph T. Williams, MPA (216.368.0529) is the director of The Office of Multicultural Programs. His primary responsibilities are the recruitment, development, and support of minority and disadvantaged medical and premedical students. Among the activities he oversees are:

The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program, a summer institute designed to prepare minority and disadvantaged undergraduates for successful admission to medical and dental school;

The National Institutes of Health Short Term Training Program for minority medical and undergraduate students. The grant supports summer research experience for students.
The office provides a wide range of student support, and all students are welcome.
Beverly Montgomery (216.368.1914) is the Department Assistant for the program. She is responsible for the planning and coordination of all office activities and programs.
Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar maintains a permanent academic record for every student. The Office is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of student records and providing appropriate data to further the educational process of the School. The Registrar, Joseph Corrao, MEd and Theresa Hancock are responsible for registering each student in the School of Medicine and for processing elective and clerkship registrations and add/drops, as well as performance evaluations. The Office of the Registrar maintains an up-to-date name and address file for each student and also provides official academic transcripts. The Office provides, by student request, letters of good standing for all four years, written verification for insurance purposes, as well as the completion of student loan deferment forms. The Office coordinates Years 1 – 4 clinical electives, fourth-year students who wish to participate in clinical rotations at other medical schools, and visiting students from other medical schools. The Office of the Registrar also helps fourth-year students to register for the Match through ERAS.
The Office of the Registrar has a very close working relationship with the Offices of Student Affairs, Curricular Affairs, Admissions, the teaching hospitals, and other committees of the School. Graduates needing letters of recommendation, statements of attendance for licensing, transcripts or credentialing should contact the Office of the Registrar in order to obtain the necessary materials.
Office of Medical Student Research

The Office of Medical Student Research is the place for information about research opportunities and the research and scholarship component of the curriculum. Experiences in research and scholarship are required for all MD students. Todd Fennimore, MPA, Director of the Office of Medical Student Research is responsible for coordinating all research activities for MD students, including the elective summer research opportunities, the required 4-month research block, elective research later in medical school, and opportunities for an additional year of research for those students interested in pursuing more research training. Mentored research experiences are the primary format through which students develop their interests and fulfill the research and scholarship requirements, including the medical thesis. Students are encouraged to identify and pursue their interests in any aspect of biomedical or social/behavioral aspects of research and are provided guidance and supervision through this office.
