The Medical Education Retreat will take place Friday, February 23,

M.D., Ph.D., Robert H. Ebert Professor of Molecular Medicine, Harvard Medical School,
Director of the Harvard-M.I.T. Division of Health, Sciences, and Technology Medical
Science M.D. Program.
March 22 is the date that the Comprehensive Basic Science
Examination will be given. All Year II
students are strongly urged to take this exam, which is highly representative of the USMLE
Step 1.
Mrs. Virginia Saha, Director of the Cleveland Health Sciences
Library, mentioned that the library has received a $1 million grant from the Elisabeth
Severance Prentiss Foundation to refurbish the Health Center Library. This $1 million is part of a more extensive
proposal. The Library is now seeking to
secure additional funding for all new carrels with CWRUnet outlets. The Library already has funding from the Firman
Foundation to transform two small rooms into one large high-tech room for interactive
video and web-based technology.
Student CME Report
Student frustration that there are not enough hours dedicated to
Anatomy, particularly in lecturelab hours are okay.
Afternoon graduate courses and electives were mentioned as options for
broadening the students knowledge base.
The Office of Student Affairs has started a research binder. Only available recently, the binder did not give
students enough advance warning of application due dates.
Students are encouraged to use this resource.
Dr. Smith worked on the binder with Dr. Haynie. Dr. LaManna will help place students in research. Suggestion to use a standard form documenting the
students research to be completed by his/her mentor for incorporation into the Deans
Letter.
The CME endorsed adoption of
a document denoting individual student research to be used in preparation of the Deans
Letter. The CME further recommended that this
document be handled through the Office of Student Affairs.
