Millennium Curriculum Project Update - December 11, 1997

Dr. LaManna reminded that December 31, 1997 is the deadline for receiving Content Subcommittee Proposals. Dr. LaManna's e-mail address is: His mailing address is: Dr. Joseph C. LaManna, Department of Neurology, Room 525, Biomedical Research Building, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-4938. Dr. LaManna emphasized that he is not expecting a "polished" product, but rather a starting-off point. Dr. LaManna particularly wants points 1-5 and 9 of the Content Subcommittee Proposal covered. If need be, Dr. LaManna will accept a two-page proposal by December 31 as a means of accommodating all faculty who "want in." Faculty should try to cover as much of the requested information as possible in the limited time given.

Dr. LaManna encouraged faculty who are analyzing topics to consider:

  1. How can we teach our topic better?
  2. How does our topic fit into a four-year curriculum?
  3. How can we address the issues of professionalism, ethics, and demographics in the context of this subject?

Dr. LaManna would like each group submitting a content proposal to carefully consider: In your expertise,

  1. What does the graduating student have to know (the minimum)?
  2. What would you like the graduating student to know?
  3. What is the advanced material for the extremely motivated individual?

Discussants voiced their perceptions of problems impeding completion of the content proposals:

  • Identifying people with whom to collaborate
  • Getting people together
  • Getting people motivated
  • Getting people to synthesize.

Monday's Advisory Group/Educational Leaders meeting will be held December 15, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. in Room E401. The purpose is to get faculty involved. The Committee on Medical Education will put together the different subject content themes. Each subject will have a four-year scheme in the curriculum.
