Thank you for your interest in the Visiting Medical Student Program with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. We welcome medical students in their final year of medical school from the United States and around the world!

The Visiting Medical Student Program offers visiting medical students a broad range of clinical elective rotations that foster growth of medical knowledge through direct patient care. Visiting Medical Students have an opportunity to become an active member of a diverse medical team; attending teaching rounds and conferences, taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and assisting with various procedures.

Our hospitals determine the availability of an elective and the acceptance of a potential candidate. Only after the SOM Registrar's Office receives a complete application will it be eligible for consideration. The SOM Registrar's Office will notify an applicant when an application has been received, accepted, denied, or requires additional documentation. Those already holding an MD degree, or its equivalent, are not eligible. The entire approval process may take up to six weeks, depending on the elective(s) being requested, so we ask applicants to be patient and refrain from excessive inquiries as to the status of a request.

Before applying, please read ALL of the "Quicklinks" pages for detailed information and requirements. Failure to comply with application requirements may result in not being accepted for a rotation. We do not process incomplete applications.

Note: Only choose electives from the List of Electives provided in the Quicklinks section. Not all electives in the School's Course Catalog are offered to visiting medical students.

The CWRU School of Medicine does not offer research opportunities and/or observerships to Visiting Medical Students.

Information and eligibility criteria for the Visiting Medical Student Program are subject to change.
