Graduation Requirements for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM)

A medical student who has satisfactorily completed all the required work in the College Track may be granted the degree of doctor of medicine (M.D.) with Special Qualifications in Biomedical Research by Case Western Reserve University, provided that:

  1. He or she has been registered at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine for at least five academic years and not more than 6 years for the College Track.
  2. The Medical Student Promotions and Review Committee at the College Track approve his or her record of performance including thesis, and the faculty recommends him/her to the trustees for graduation.
  3. He/she has discharged all financial obligations to the Case Western Reserve University and to the program in which he/she is enrolled.
  4. He/she has taken and passed the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS. An additional requirement of CWRU SOM, is that students must take and pass the required CWRU Step 2 CS OSCE.

Research and Clinical Requirements in Years 3-5

Note: In order to graduate from CWRU SOM, students need a total of 146 weeks to graduate. This is in addition to the 48 weeks of thesis research.

Research: Students must complete 48 weeks of research.

Clinical/Non-Clinical:

In Years 3 - 5, College of Medicine students need to complete a total of 146 weeks to graduate.

For students beginning required clinical rotations before March 2009:

For students beginning required clinical rotations on or after March 2009:

* Students must meet with their Physician Advisor to determine the appropriate mix of clinical (minimum of 16 weeks) and non-clinical electives to meet their individual learning needs.
