Visiting International Application: Application Process
4th Year Electives
*It should be noted that electives listed for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation are for Case students only. If you would like and elective at teh Cleveland Clinic, please contact their visiting student coordinator, Pat Gasser at gasserp@ccf.org or (216) 444-9977.
Application must be received 3 months before elective.
Prerequisites
- USMLE Step 1 score
- have completed their Core Clinical Clerkships prior to participation
in the Case Visiting Clerkship program.
- are in good standing at their home school.
- have their school's approval to participate in the desired elective.
- have satisfied the required immunizations.
- are 4th year students at the time of their Case rotation.
- Required background check.
How To Apply
In the event that your primary selection is filled, you are advised to
list two alternate choices. The application must contain all of the requested
information from both the applicant and the appropriate Dean. Your Dean's
office must verify all completed Core Clerkships.
NOTE: CANCELLATION OF AN ELECTIVE REQUIRES AT LEAST ONE MONTH
ADVANCE NOTICE.
- Students are reminded to request dates, for participation, which coincide
with the elective intervals at Case Western Reserve University School
of Medicine.
- All applications will be considered in the order in which they are
received.
- No applicant will be notified of acceptance until after CWRU students
have been scheduled.
- Registration in an elective will be confirmed only
after the application form has been received and approved. Students will
be notified by mail of the results of their application.
Calendar
- There are no 2 week electives for visiting students
Tuition
- $120.00 per elective (U.S. money order only, no checks)
All fees are non-refundable and must accompany the application. Checks
or money orders should be made payable to Case Western Reserve University.
Insurance
Malpractice and/or General Liability Insurance is not provided to visiting
medical students through the Case School of Medicine. This must be provided
by the student or his/her medical school. *Documented proof of
health insurance, malpractice coverage and a record of immunizations
must accompany the application or it will be returned.
Documentation of student-purchased liability coverage must be
received in the Registrar's office 30 days prior
to the start of the elective(s), if your school does not provide such
coverage
Cancellation
All visiting students are asked to remember that House Staff and Attending
Physician schedules are planned several months in advance. Final confirmation
of acceptance into an elective must be binding unless unforeseen circumstances
make participation impossible. However, in the event of cancellation,
please immediately notify the Registrar' Office at Case School of Medicine
Immunization Requirements
Visiting Clerks must submit verification of completion of the following
immunizations.
- Hepatitis B. Series of 3 doses; serology , if available.
- Measles, mumps and Rubella. Immunization or titer; in the case of
Measles, if had disease, a doctor's signature is required to confirm
office record.
- Varicella (chicken pox). If no documented history, an antibody titer
to measure immunity is strongly recommended.
- Diphtheria/tetanus. Record of booster within the past 10 years.
- Polio. Completed series of immunization indicating type of vaccine,
as well as, date of last booster.
- Tuberculosis. PPD by Mantoux method, with date 12 months prior
to completion of Case elective. If positive, chest x-ray results are
required. Students who have received BCG vaccine must specify
date and may be required to provide chest x-ray results
Housing
Arrangement for meals and housing are made by the individual student.
Information concerning the availability of housing in hospital locations
can be obtained by contacting the Director of The Residence Halls
of the affiliated hospitals where you have been scheduled. Also try
