Bio

Dr. Shivapour is board certified in pediatrics. Her special interest is congenital heart disease in infants, children and adults. She joined the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital staff in August 2013.

Dr. Shivapour completed her undergraduate studies at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree with honors in biology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City, Iowa and completed her pediatric residency at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, also in Iowa City. She completed her fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, Boston, Mass.

Her residency was distinguished by several awards, including the Department of Pediatrics Gil Cuthbertson Award, for overall excellence as a pediatric resident; the Eve Hanfland Memorial Pediatric Cardiology Award, for outstanding scholarship, compassion, and aptitude in the field of pediatric cardiology; and the Department of Pediatrics Rita E. Krause Award for special dedication to the health and well¬being of adolescents. Dr. Shivapour also received the Outstanding Teacher Award in January 2014 from the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Shivapour’s research interests are congenital heart disease and arrhythmias in infants and children, and she has been involved in clinical studies related to this subspecialty since 2007. She has been an invited speaker at medical meetings, speaking on preoperative arrhythmia evaluations in Ebstein’s anomaly, and she has published a paper on this topic in Heart Rhythm.

In 2008 and 2010 Dr. Shivapour traveled to Yucatan, Mexico with DIF as a volunteer translator for pediatric cardiologists and provided medical care for infants and children with congenital heart disease. She is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics.
