Sharon B. Meropol, MD, PhD, is a pediatrician in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine; Medical Director, Rainbow Research Network; and Associate Medical Director for Research and Evaluation, The Center for Child Health and Policy, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. She is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Meropol is board certified in pediatrics. Her special clinical interests include antibiotic use, clinical decision-making, and general pediatrics. She joined the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital staff in 2010.

Dr. Meropol completed her undergraduate work at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif., and she earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Nashville, Tenn. She also holds a Master’s of Science in clinical epidemiology and a doctorate in epidemiology with a focus on pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa. She served a residency in pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and a fellowship in general academic pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

Dr. Meropol’s research interests include epidemiology, health services research and pharmacoepidemiology. She currently is Principal Investigator on a National Institutes of Health-funded study on antibiotic resistance in infants.

Dr. Meropol has published a dozen papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and co-authored a textbook chapter. She has presented at national and international medical meetings on a range of pediatric medicine and research topics.

Dr. Meropol is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Epidemiology; Academic Pediatric Association, Public Policy and Advocacy Committee; International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
