Dr. Lydia Furman earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. in 1979 and her medical degree from CWRU School of Medicine in 1983. She completed an internship and her residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston from 1983-1986.

Current activities:
• Provide direct primary care and supervise resident patient care at the Pediatric Practice at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital
• Supervise, teach and mentor pediatric residents at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital
• Mentor for CWRU School of Medicine 3rd and 4th year students for research block
• Chairperson of Pediatric Departmental Clinical Research Review Committee
• Institutional Review Board Vice Chair
• Co-Chair UH Breastfeeding Promotion Committee
• Co-lead for Ohio Department of Health Chronic Disease Collaborative breastfeeding objective
• Assistant Editor and Member Executive Editorial Board for Pediatrics

Current completed grant:
• Breast for Success, primary grant from the Mt. Sinai Healthcare Foundation (w/ an AAP CATCH Implementation Grant)- a family centered intervention to promote and support breastfeeding among high-risk women in Cleveland, OH, collaborating with community partners MomsFirst™, Community Endeavors, Inc. and WIC.
