Critical Care

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital provides comprehensive care for critically ill children and young adults with acute, life-threatening diseases or injuries. Our Division includes a 20-bed state-of-the art combined medical and surgical Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and a Pediatric Procedural Sedation Unit (PSU), both designed and staffed to meet the needs of our patients and families. The units are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of specialized nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, social workers and fully trained pediatric intensivists, who are also responsible for coordinating pre-hospital care of children who need advanced care at our referral center.

We care for our patients with the highest level of expertise and offer a wide range of advanced treatment modalities including Extracorporeal Life Support (ECMO), nitric oxide therapy, non-invasive ventilation, high frequency ventilation, renal replacement therapies and surfactant replacement.

Our mission is to provide unparallel expert and compassionate care to the region's sickest pediatric patients, advance knowledge in the field through our various research efforts, and form the intensivists of tomorrow through our postgraduate fellowship training program in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
