Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery

The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Case Western Reserve University provides complete otolaryngology care for children and adults complemented by strong basic science and clinical research programs.

Our staff includes sub-specialists in head and neck surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, neurotology, skull-base surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, laryngology and care of the professional voice, treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, allergy, audiology, speech pathology and swallowing therapy who work together as a team to coordinate every component of medical and surgical care.

Special program components include a complete voice laboratory for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of voice disorders, a Cochlear Implant team, and all aspects of audiology (hearing diagnostic testing and rehabilitation, auditory evoked potentials, pediatric audiology, and vestibular testing laboratory). Comprehensive care of head and neck cancer is provided through the Ireland Cancer Center and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Cameron Wick, MD (PGY-4) receives award for research presentation at COSM

Cameron Wick, MD (PGY-4) received an award for research presentation at COSM. The award is for first place of the combined American Otological Society (AOS) and american Neurotology Society (ANS) poster competition. This event took place at the annual Combined Otolaryngological Spring Meetings (COSM), Las Vegas, NV (May 14-18, 2014). Wick and colleagues investigated the treatment of ear and bone disease in the Phex mouse mutant with dietary supplements. Congratulations to Cameron et al!

March 15, 2014 Howard Hughes Medical Research Fellowship to Adrian Au
Congratulations to Adrian Au for being awarded the Howard Hughes Medical Research Fellowship for the 2014-15 academic year! Adrian is a medical student from CWRU. Before applying for the HHMI fellowship, Adrian completed his research rotation as a medical student in the Department of Otolaryngology at CWRU under the guidance of Kumar Alagramam, Ph.D.

Congratulations to Victoria and Lana for their awards in the Biomedical Graduate Student Symposium at CWRU SOM. Victoria Chou from the Departments of Otolaryngology and Biology won 1st prize (The President's Award at CWRU) for her oral presentation of her thesis work. Lana Pollock from the Departments of Otolaryngology and Genetics won Outstanding Poster Award for her work relating to a gene she cloned that is involved in hair-cell development. Both Victoria and Lana are members of the McDermott Laboratory.
