Kumar Alagramam Awarded a Grant from the National Institutes of Health

Congratulations to Kumar Alagramam, Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, who has been awarded a R01 grant December 2010 from the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders. This award will provide support for a period of 5 years to elucidate the molecular mechanism of hearing loss in the animal model of Usher syndrome III (USH3). Research in the Alagramam group is focused on identifying genes associated with deafness in Usher syndrome, developing an animal model for this condition, and understanding biological function of Usher genes in the mammalian ear. This current grant award is focused on defining the function of USH3 gene clarin-1 in the inner ear and helping us better understand the pathophysiology linked to deafness in USH3 patients.
Wonderful news about our alumni!
Narenda Kumar, MD, first graduate of our program, has been named the President of the American Association of Indian Physicians.
Alain Sabri, MD has been appointed Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the American University of Beirut.
Congratulations to Drs. Kumar and Sabri!
