SPONSORED PROJECT VS. GIFT

DEFINITIONS

Gift - transfer of funds or property to the University from a group, foundation, or individual that will not benefit the donor. There are no specific requirements, such as scientific progress or detailed financial reports required as a condition of the gift, although the donor may specify an area of research that is to be supported by the gift.

Sponsored Project- externally sponsored award that is made to the University to support a specific project. Sponsor details terms and conditions of the award, and each award has a unique account with a separate budget and financial report. Activities supported are usually research, training, or public service.
