Using COS Funding Alert
Step 1: Each individual must create a profile with COS.
Go to www.cos.com and
fill out personal information (cv, research area of interest,
keywords, language preference, etc.)
Step 2: Using the information in your expertise profile,
COS creates an introductory search for you to match your
COS keyword, location, and eligibility. Email results
arrive every Monday
COS introductory search can be modified and each individual
can add up to 4 additional searches. Individuals can view
and download each week's results from their COS workbench.
Simply log on to www.cos.com
and enter your name and password and then click on
introductory search. You can view your alerts and add
additional searches under the View Your Funding Alerts
Section.
Email notification is sent weekly with the funding alerts
to the email address specified in the COS expertise profile.
You have the capability to turn email delivery on and
off within your profile.

Modifying and existing search
Step 1: Log into your COS workbench from the www.cos.com
website with your username and password.
Step 2: To change a search, click 'Modify Alerts'. You
will have the options to modify or delete searches that
you were asked to name in your profile, for example: departmental
research funds, funds for my research assistant and funds
for my next project.
The alert search form is similar to the COS Funding Opportunities

search will run only against those rcords that are new
and updated each week and will not run against the entire
COS Funding Opportunites database that contains archived
alerts.

rquirements, citizenship or residency requirements. If
you click on the 'browse' button this opens a new window
listing the COS Keywords hierarchy. Keywords are used
to label each record. You can access the keyword hierarchy
by clicking on folders or + symbols.
Helpful Tip: Selecting the Explode option includes all
terms in the hierarchy underneath the chosen keyword(s).
For example: If you choose the keyword 'education' and
then click the explode option, the search will include
the 150+ terms withing the catergory, such as Higer Education,
Special Education, and Women's Education.
Step 4: Preview this search to test-run it against the
entire COS Funding Opportunities database. Once you save
this search, the alert will run only against opportunities
that are new and updated each week.
Step 5: Save the search. When you are completely satsisfied
with the results to you on Monday. Once you save the search,
COS will prompt you to answer if you would like to save
the changes and display this keyword in you COS expertise
profile and use it in the funding alert, or if the keyword
should be used in your funding alert account and not displayed
in the COS expertise profile.
Adding a New Search
