Effort Certification Process Guide for Faculty and Administrators
Step 1 - Log On
This takes you to https://addison.ra.cwru.edu/spiderweb/effort/default.cfm where you will see a list of faculty members in your department who need to certify effort. Click on each name to review the form.
Step 2 - Review and Adjust the Effort Form
- Review the accounts.
- Check to see that all accounts that should be present on the Effort Form are there. If you need to add an account, go to the bottom of the form and click Add sponsored project to add the account.
- You are reviewing the effort percentages to certify that the percentage of effort listed in the “Certified Effort” column is a reasonable estimate of the effort devoted to each project in this reporting period.
- If you need to enter or change percentages, do so in the “Direct Charge” or “Cost-share” columns. Click update button on bottom of form. Total effort must equal 100%.
- Add comments if necessary, e.g., “Faculty member has compensation through Hospital or Practice Plan that is not reflected in University payroll.”
- Click the “Ready to Certify” button to continue with the certification process, if you are sending this form electronically to the faculty member.
- Click “Printable” if you wish to use a hard copy version.
- Once the faculty member has certified, you will go back to the on-line form and click the “Certified by Paper” button. Keep a copy of the signed form for your records and send the original to Grants Accounting c/o Paul Frey.
The e-mail notifying administrators that certification forms are ready will have an attachment in Excel which details by account the percentages of salary distribution over the reporting period.
Step 3 – Faculty Review and Certification
- Follow log-in procedure to Spiderweb as detailed above.
- Review the form. Questions about the information in the form should be directed to your department administrator. If you believe the information needs to be changed, please discuss any changes with your department administrator.
- Once you have completed your review and believe the certification information to be correct, click the “Certify” button at the bottom of the page to complete the process.
- If you are certifying a hard copy, please sign it and return it to your department administrator.
