Per Diem Calculator
Instructions
If you have read have already read the instructions you can can go directly
to Per
Diem Rate Calculator .
Otherwise we suggest you review the instructions and familiarize yourself
with the features of this tool. If you have any questions please let us
know. For more information on how per diem rates are established you should
refer to the NRC
Rate Setting Manual .
By keying in just a few simple pieces of information, the per diem calculator
will determine your total monthly charges for any month's Animal Room
Inventory sheet.
The following elements, highlighted in blue on the calculator form, are all that are required for proper completion
of the calculations:
a. Month: (Text) January, February, etc. (The full name of the month
must be filled in for the calculator to assign the correct number of days
for a particular month)
b. Species: (Text) Mice, Rats, Rabbits, G.P., Ferrets, Dogs, Cats, Pigs,
Goats, Frogs, Brooders
c. Beginning Inventory (numeric value)
d. Ending Inventory (numeric value)
e. Cages In / Cages Out (numeric values)
Notes:
In a perfect
world, where all cages are correctly marked in and marked out, the "actual
ending inventory" will equal the "calculated ending inventory",
as in the following example:
Beginning inventory 10
Cages In +4
Cages Out -2
----
Calculated Ending Inventory 12
Actual Ending Inventory 12
In the real
world, however, where cages are not always correctly marked in and out,
the "actual ending inventory" may exceed the "calculated
ending inventory", as in the following example:
Beginning inventory 10
Cages In +0
Cages Out -0
----
Calculated Ending Inventory 10
Actual Ending Inventory 12
In this example,
the calculator automatically charges for the full month all excess cages,
board days, and charges from day 1, assuming that, in the example above,
there must have been 12 cages to start, as in: 12 beginning + 0 in - 0
out = 12 ending
In the opposite
example, where "calculated ending inventory" exceeds "actual
ending inventory", the calculator charges on the greater of the two,
i.e., the calculated ending inventory.
It is therefore
extremely important to accurately mark in all additions (including cages
from weaned litters) and mark out all animals/cages on the day the animal/cage
is taken out of the room.. Otherwise you may be paying for animals you
don't have.
We invite you
to keep track of your inventory carefully. This is a tool for your use
in ESTIMATING per diem charges. We have worked diligently to debug this
calculator, if you discover a discrepancy, please let us know. This calculator
was developed by our staff and is not related to the COBOL based software
that actually performs the calculations and generates monthly bills. Enjoy!
