School of Medicine's 2013 White Coat Ceremony

Anatomy Camp Offers Hands-on Learning for Both CMSD and School of Medicine Students

This past Sunday, July 14, 2013, friends and families of incoming medical students gathered at Severance Hall to proudly witness the School of Medicine's 2013 White Coat Ceremony.

The White Coat Ceremony, one of the most anticipated milestones along a doctor's path, welcomed 199 individually gifted students into the medical school at Case Western Reserve University. The presentation of their own physician's coats, used to recognize health care professionals throughout the world, represents the next crucial stage of their education in which they will actively engage with patients and other professionals.

This year's entering class is teeming with intensely motivated and talented students. Several are entering the medical school after having earned previous degrees, including three PhDs, seventeen master degrees, and one Juris Doctorate. Others have successfully founded and managed their own businesses and philanthropic organizations before turning to medicine.

As a class, the students have volunteered, studied, or worked in more than twenty countries across the globe, and, individually, they represent an astonishingly wide range of activities and professions. They have participated in Teach for America and Americorps, as well as countless community outreach programs across the country.

The new class also includes several martial arts experts, a theatre manager, teachers from a variety of disciplines, a professional opera singer, a rabbi, and even a professional ice hockey player.
