Applicant Information
Applicants for training must be students in or graduates of an accredited medical school. The department requires a one-year pre-requisite of a surgical internship, preferably completed in the Department of Surgery at the Case School of Medicine.
The Neurosurgery match is run by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in conjunction with the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications should be submitted through ERAS (http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/). The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) website, www.nrmp.org, also contains information on the matching system.
Interview dates
The following dates have been chosen for resident applicant interviews this fall:
- Tuesday, October 20, 2009
- Thursday, November 19, 2009
- Wednesday, December 9, 2009
A dinner will be hosted by the faculty and current residents the evening before each interview.
Requirements
Requirements for the residency program are:
- Application
- Personal statement
- Three current letters of reference
- Dean’s letters and transcripts
- USMLE scores - passing the USMLE 1 and 2 on the first attempt and a 2-digit score of 80 or higher.
- Additional information required for foreign medical school graduates
ECFMG certification
J1 visa - University Hospitals of Cleveland does not sponsor the H1B or
any other type of visa.
