Neurological Surgery Imaging Laboratory: University Hospitals of Cleveland, and School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University

The primary theme of research in the Neurological Surgery Department's Imaging Laboratory is Computer Assisted Surgery. Specifically, our goal is to provide neurological surgeons with assistance during open, stereotactic procedures, as well as radiosurgical procedures. Central to Computer Assisted Surgery is the use of structural and functional medical imaging data for pre-operative treatment planning, intra-operative guidance, and post-operative outcome assessment. The Imaging Laboratory's current research emphases are in three areas: (1) the development of tissue engineered implants for cranial repair, (2) photodynamic therapy of brain tumors, and (3) automated treatment planning of radiosurgical procedures.
