Surgical Theater Presents at White House
Surgical Theater presented at the White House in the Office of Technology and Science event that launched the US-Ignite: an initiative to promote US leadership in developing applications and services for ultra-fast broadband and software-defined networks.
Department of Neurological Surgery Chairman Warren Selman, MD, and Andrew Sloan, MD, demonstrated the Surgery Rehearsel Platform that allows surgeons to perform patient specific surgery planning in a collaborative manner from remotes sites. By connecting multiple Surgery Rehearsal Platforms from remote hospitals surgeons across the nation and across the globe "step into" the Surgical Theater patient's virtual model to telementor and work together on the patient's case, jointly performing a virtual surgery and making critical decisions before entering the operation room.
In his closing notes, Todd Park, United States Chief Technology Officer, referred to the Surgical Theater demonstration as an "incredible demo of Surgical Theater. Every patient that has a surgery should benefit from this kind of technology."
