Our Work

A population based prevalence study of genetic and environmental factors for Alzheimer's disease in Kenya

Kenya Photo 1We are screening 3,000 people over the age of 65 (using random selection) in the Nyeri District in central Kenya for studies of the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and
evaluation of risks and protective factors, with particular attention to apolipoprotein E genotypes. We will detect genetic and environmental factors which may be responsible for the reduced prevalence of the disease in Black Africans and for the lack of risk factor effect of the apolipoprotein E4 genotype in Africans.
