We are using a family design to study patients and
controls to uncover new Alzheimer's disease genes and to better
understand environmental risk and protective
factors. Data about subjects from questionnaires
concerning smoking, head injury, education,
occupational attainment, mental and physical
activity, concurrent illnesses and medications are
being collected. DNA is being analyzed by our
collaborator Lindsay Farrer, PhD at Boston
University. Plasma and cells are banked for analyzes
of important markers of disease and protective
mechanisms.
This project is a continuation of the CWRU AD case control study, founded in 1991.
We have 583 case controls and 330 Alzheimer's
disease cases.
All
subjects are part of the University Memory and Aging
Center of the University Hospitals of Cleveland -
