2. If I come to Metro, can I get a (prestigious) fellowship?
- Yes. Our residents have procured fellowships at some of the finest programs in the U.S.
3. What percentage of graduating residents entered primary care practice vs. fellowships?
- 67% of residents have entered fellowships in the last two years.
4. What percentage of graduating residents passed the Boards?
- In 2006, 100% of graduates passed the ABIM certifying exam. Over the last five years 90% of graduates have passed their board certifying exams.
5. What percentage of residents are involved in research?
- We encourage residents to do research during their residency. The Department has several NIH-funded investigators and has a strong section of Health Services Research.
- All senior residents must participate in scholarly work by preparing the “Senior Talk”. The Senior Talk involves selection of a topic, identifying and reviewing the literature on that topic, preparing slides and handouts, and delivering the talk to their peers and faculty.
6. How ‘academic’ is Metro?
- Over $40 million in NIH funded research in 2004
- Significantly contributes to Case’s national ranking in top 15 NIH funded universities.
7. Is Metro a community hospital?
- No. MHMC is one of only 125 Academic Medical Centers in the United States.
8. Does Metro have a medical school affiliation?
- Yes, with Case Western Reserve University. Case does not own a hospital; it only has affiliates. The three major affiliates are MetroHealth, University Hospitals, and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
