The research accomplishments of the Division are outstanding. The Division is ranked in the top 5 nationally in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Thirteen faculty have NIH funding totaling 18 million dollars in annual direct costs. In the Division, there are currently 7 program projects. The major research strengths are HIV/AIDS (AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, Center for AIDS Research), tuberculosis (Tuberculosis Research and Prevention Unit), antimicrobial resistance (bacteria, viruses including HIV, fungi and mycobacteria), biodefense (Midwest Regional Center of Excellence) and clinical trials (vaccines, therapeutics for emerging infections). International research is an overarching component of the activities in the Division.
