Appointment Announcement
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Fabio Cominelli, MD, PhD as Chief of the Division of Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease, Director of the CWRU Digestive Health Center and UH Case Medical Center Digestive Health and Disease Service Line effective November 1, 2008. Dr. Cominelli will also be the inaugural awardee of the Hermann Menges, Jr. Chair in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Cominelli is currently the David Stone Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Digestive Health Research Center and Training Program at the University of Virginia Health System. He is a nationally and internationally known expert in inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Cominelli's research programs truly span the gap between the bench and bedside. He currently has an NIH Merit Award, a Program Project Grant and 1 of 15 Silvio Conti Digestive Health Centers among others. He is serving or has served on numerous editorial boards including the Journal of Immunology. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
Dr. Cominelli's spouse is Theresa Pizarro, PhD. She is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia and has an NIH funded research program focused on mucosal immunology. Dr. Pizarro currently serves on 5 editorial boards. She will be joining our faculty as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology.
