Case Western Reserve UniversityCase Western Reserve University strives to bring life-changing technology to the people who need it, which is why we are committed to making FES devices clinically available through the Institute for Functional Restoration.Barbara R. Snyder, President of Case Western Reserve University.

The Institute for Functional Restoration

Founded by Dr. Peckham, the Institute for Functional Restoration (IFR) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), is a novel organization whose mission is to make useful technologies available to all individuals who can benefit from them, The IFR was created within CWRU to act as a non-profit corporate partner capable of navigating through the “valley of death by gaining FDA approval for these technologies and establishing the necessary infrastructure to make these technologies broadly available.
The IFR was created to:
1.) Evaluate technologies that have completed successful demonstrated in research studies and select those with the strongest clinical evidence and ability to impart the greatest good for those with SCI
2.) Move the technology from a research setting into a production environment that is suitable for commercial availability
3.) Sponsor and manage FDA clinical trials to obtain marketing approval
4.) Identify and work with clinical partners to offer the interventions as part of the normal SCI standard of care
