Area Health Education Center

The Urban AHEC at Case, part of a statewide consortium, offers community-based education for health professions students and access to health information for the public. Working with the OUH, the Urban AHEC provides opportunities for students to contribute to the health and well-being of community residents in underserved areas while gaining important skills to become effective and compassionate providers. The Urban AHEC supports medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health and undergraduate students' participation in activities such as health promotion, health screening, policy initiatives, and program development. In addition, the Urban AHEC directly promotes health careers, provides and facilitates community education programs, and contributes to continuing education for providers.

NetWellness is a health website designed to deliver understandable information to the public straight from medical experts. One of the first consumer health sites on the web, NetWellness partners − Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati − have been dedicated to offering this service since 1995. Faculty experts from wide-ranging fields provide up-to-date information in their field of specialty: from diabetes and heart disease to mental health and addiction to nutrition and exercise to cancer. They explain key issues in health and research that enhance quality of life and prevent and treat disease, providing key tools to maximize health and help people work with their providers as part of their own health care team. Serving a national and international audience with this non-profit educational resource, NetWellness reflects the service mission of the partner universities: confidential, anonymous, unbiased, and free.
