Case Western Reserve University School Of Medicine has a strong philosophical commitment to the importance of
achieving diversity in its research and educational programs. Case has a long history of efforts that include
pre-college programs and undergraduate and graduate recruiting strategies that continue to offer opportunities to
students in our graduate and medical schools.
The Graduate Education Office seeks to enhance recruitment of minority students to the PhD programs at the SOM and
to ensure their success. The Minority Graduate Student Organization (MGSO) formed in 2001 to foster
a student group identity and shared values. MGSO meetings each month cover many issues including the experiences of the students
in research. Read more about MGSO members in the MGSO Booklet.
The Case School of Medicine has received NIH funding to support recent minority college graduates
in preparing for a research-based graduate program. The Postbaccalaureate Research
Education Program (PREP) provides an outstanding preparatory environment for students who feel additional preparation in research is
needed to fulfill their goal of earning a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences.
The Case SOM has enjoyed vigorous minority student matriculation in the medical school as a result of a
longstanding commitment to minority students and the efforts of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs,
Robert Haynie, MD, Ph.D in the office of Student Affairs and Joseph Williams MPA, Director of Multicultural Affairs.
The SOM is proud of its well-established programs to support and encourage students to pursue medical studies.
