There has recently been lots of concern about antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reports a study of antibiotic use for colds, upper respiratory illnesses and bronchitis.

They found that since most of these illnesses are caused by viruses, not bacteria, antibiotics just don't help.

So, don't pressure your doctor for antibiotics, they just may not be necessary.

I'm Medical Editor, Dr. Ted Castele, with the Medical Moment.
