Herpes Drug

Genital Herpes infects one out of five Americans and about half of them have recurrences six times a year. Now there is good news for these patients.

Doctors reporting in the Journal of the American Medical Association report a study of 455 patients who had more than six episodes of herpes a year. Those treated with the drug famciclovir were able to significantly delay the onset of recurrence and were free of disease three times longer than those on sugar pills.

It's good to know that now there are three antiviral medicines available for this condition.

I'm Medical Editor, Dr. Ted Castele, with the Medical Moment.
