Teaching Hospitals

Major Teaching Hospitals have a complex and costly mission of teaching, research, and caring for the very sick.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reports a study on how well and how efficiently they do this right here in Northern Ohio hospitals.

Researchers from Case Western Reserve University found that one important measure of cost, the length of stay, was nearly 10% lower in the major teaching hospitals.

Additionally, the mortality rate was 19% lower in those hospitals, as well.

An expert from Harvard Medical School points out the importance of preserving these institutions in our community.
