Sickle-Cell Disease

Good news for some patients with Sickle Cell Disease according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

A select group of young patients, under 16 years of age, with advanced Sickle Cell Disease, were treated with bone marrow transplant.

Fifteen out of twenty-two recovered from their disease and are considered cured.

However, some doctors fear these patients may still have long term complications at a later time.

At least for now there is help for certain Sickle Cell patients.
