Prostate Cancer

There is some good news for patients with locally advanced prostate cancer.

The New England Journal of Medicine reports a study of men treated with external radiation plus a medicine which reduces their male hormones, called goserelin.

The results of the study of 415 men show that those treated with both of these methods had a five year survival rate of 79% while those treated with radiation alone had a 62% survival rate.

Intense study of the best way to treat prostate cancer continues.

There may be more good news in the near future.
