Hormones After Menopause

Using hormones after menopause has both benefits and risks just like any other medicine.

The New England Journal of Medicine reports a study of the mortality rates among women using these hormones.

It found that they had a lower risk of death overall compared to women who had never taken hormones.......

However......This survival benefit decreased the longer they took the medicine because of increased death from breast cancer.

The treatment was particularly helpful for those women who had a high risk of heart disease.

This is an example of why the pros and cons of any medicine must be carefully weighed.
