Dr Martin Resnick, Lester Persky Professor & Chairman, Department of Urology, Case Western Reserve University & UH Case Medical Center died of complications of acute myeloid leukemia on Sunday, June 23, 2007 at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr Resnick began teaching at Case and treating patients at University Hospitals in 1981. He graduated in 1964 from Alfred University in Southeastern New York State and later taught at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he had earned a medical degree in 1969.
Dr Resnick headed the American Urological Association, American Board of Urology and Society of University Urologists. He earned numerous honors for his dedication to raising the status of the field of urology in the medical world and to the public. He received the American Urological Association's Gold Cystoscope Award in 1985 and its Distinguished Past Scholar Award in May, 2007. He also received the Socit Internationale d'Urologie's Distinguished Career Award and the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons' Spence Medal for 2007 and was the founding editor of Contemporary Urology.
Dr. Seftel has been selected to America's top doctors for the years 2001-2004.
Dr. Seftel is the member of the editorial board for the Journal of Andrology: Current Surgery and Editor of the Sexual Medicine Section for the Journal of Urology's Urologic Survey Section.
Dr. Seftel has authored and edited a book titled: "Male and Female Sexual Dysfunction" published by Mosby, an imprint of Elsevier Ltd. The associate editors who have contributed to this book are Harin Padma-Nathan, MD, FACS, FRCS; Chris G McMahon, MB, BS, FACSHP; Francois Giuliano, MD, PhD; and Stanley E Althof, PhD.
Dr. Greg MacLennan and Dr. Martin Resnick of the Departments of Pathology and Urology at CWRU, and Dr. David Bostwick of Richmond, Virginia, have co-authored a textbook of urologic pathology written specifically for urologists. It was published by W. B. Saunders Co. in May of 2003. It is titled "Pathology for Urologists".
 

Fundings

Dr. Gupta and Dr. Li received funding from Case Comprehensive Cancer Center to study the effect of green tea polyphenols in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy.
Dr. Gupta received a RO1 grant from National Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to investigate the use of chamomile, a german tea against prostate cancer.
Dr. Hijaz received a R21 grant from National Institute of Health to investigate the mechanisms of vaginal sling effects on continence.
Dr. Gupta received a RO1 grant from National Cancer Institute to investigate the molecular mechanisms involved during prostate cancer chemoprevention with apigenin, a plant flavonoid abundantly present in common fruits and vegetables.
Dr. Gupta received a RO1 grant from National Cancer Institute to study the role of green tea polyphenols in reactivation of GSTP1 gene, silenced in prostate cancer.

The 2008 American Urologic Association Annual Meeting will be in Orange County Convention Center, May 17-22, 2008.
