Welcome to the University Hospitals Urology Institute at Case Medical Center and the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Department of Urology.
I am very fortunate to have been selected to lead the Department of Urology, which has a rich tradition of excellence in patient care, education, research and postgraduate training. It is an honor to build upon this foundation. Some most recent highlights of the Department include:
The residency training program remains strong under the guidance of Drs. Edward Cherullo and Lynn Woo. We still retain the protected year of research where residents are encouraged and supported to pursue hypothesis-generated ideas with faculty mentorship and guidance. This approach has proven successful as Case Urology was again well represented at last year's AUA national meeting with a number of scientific abstracts presented. Plans for the introduction of resident electives and international rotations are now underway to further broaden and diversify the clinical experience for our residents. Furthermore University Hospitals Case Medical Center is working toward the development and full verification of level I trauma center, so the opportunity to diagnose and manage patients with genitourinary trauma in both an acute and delayed setting will be an added feature of the program.
At Case Western Reserve University, our Department of Urology offers a six-year, accredited residency program and fellowships in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive urologic surgery. Additionally, our dedicated, talented faculty perform cutting-edge research in a variety of areas at the largest biomedical research institution in Ohio.
