Directors Welcome
Welcome to our international health track website!!

Our discipline, family medicine, is the most potent health care specialty that goes beyond the boundaries of culture or nation, the dichotomy of health and disease to serve the neediest population in any communities in the world. No other specialty is more relevant than family medicine in becoming an international health practitioner.
If you are just seeking an exotic "away" rotation, this is NOT the right program for you. If you believe the practice of international health should be "evidence-based" and should incorporate a rapidly evolving body of knowledge; you will find a dynamic group of faculty and residents to share your common interests.
Through my 20-years experiences as an international health practitioner, unfortunately I often witnessed our good intentions and goodwill wasted due to ignorance and misunderstandings. I firmly believe there are basic sets of knowledge that we all have to be familiar with before we serve other countries or communities.
The world is changing rapidly today. We have to accommodate these changes to our approach to practice international health. Look at the latest keyword emerging lately in the field of international health, globalization, partnership, right-based approach, etc.
We try to keep up with the latest and most updated guidelines and approach in the field of international health and try to provide these bodies of knowledge through your residency training to become a competent international health practitioner.
The following curriculum is the REQUIREMENTS for the residents in the track:
- Journal club every 4 weeks.
- Two-week course, "International Health Workshop" at the beginning of your 2nd year.
- One-week CME course, "Management of Complex Humanitarian Emergencies" at the end of your 2nd year.
Please take your time to browse our activities and resources. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your interest in our international health track.
Sincerely,
Mori Morikawa, MD, MPH
