Application Process for 2008-2009 Academic Year

Our Family Practice Residency Program is only accepting applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) from the Association of American Medical Colleges . The application process for using ERAS may be obtained through your medical school's dean's office. Please contact your dean's office to initiate this process for our residency program. Graduates of schools of osteopathic medicine are eligible to enter the osteopathic match through ERAS for our program. Our residency has approval by the American Osteopathic Association for an AOA approved internship. The ERAS process makes applying easier.

The following information should be submitted to your dean's office for entry into the ERAS system. No paper copies need to be submitted to our residency program for this purpose.

•  Dean's letter

•  (3) Letters of recommendation

•  Personal Statement

•  Medical School Transcript

•  USMLE/COMLEX Scores

Interview Visit

A personal interview is required and will be considered part of your application process. Once we have received information through the ERAS system, you will be contacted by the residency with information regarding scheduling of an interview. All applications are reviewed by our Residency Recruiting Committee. We request arrangements for interviews to be made at least two weeks in advance. At the time of your interview, we will arrange accommodations for you during your visit. Interviews will be conducted from October through January.

International Medical Graduates

Our program welcomes all applicants through ERAS. Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview. Program requirements for international medical graduates include:

  1. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited school of medicine. An accredited school is one that is recognized by the World Health Organization. Applicants must reasonably substantiate the time spent between graduation and application to the program in the ERAS document.
  2. Applicants must pass all appropriate examinations, including the USMLE. Though, our program does not have a "minimum score" requirement or a "maximum number of attempts" requirement, USMLE scores above 80% and NO MORE than two attempts are highly considered.
  3. Applicants must have a U.S. Visa or residency status. University Hospitals Case Medical Center does not sponsor Visas, but does accept ECFMG sponsored J-1 visas.
  4. Although this is not a requirement, those candidates who have had at least one year of clinical experience in a U.S. medical facility do have a better chance of being offered an interview.
  5. Applications accepted only through ERAS starting in September 2008.
  6. Application deadline is: December 31, 2008
