Golden Opportunity: RNA profile on psoriasis patients shows sticky cells that correlate with atherosclerosis.

Specific monocyte subsets correlate with cardiovascular comorbidities and atherosclerosis. The work by Jackie Golden demonstrated these cells increase in psoriasis patients , have upregulated integrins and specific adhesion molecules compared to monocytes from non-psoriatic individuals.

IL-6 contributes to the development of psoriasis, block the path and cure the disease, not so fast.

The project examined the counterintuitive development of psoriasis in rheumatoid arthritis patients following inhibition of the IL-6 cytokine pathway. Although IL-6 is believed to be a major contributing pathway to induction of psoriasis, inhibition of this cytokine signal can lead to worsening disease as well as new onset in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Inhibition of IL-6 receptors may trigger the Th-17-derived cytokine IL-17 and exacerbate psoriasis.
