Re: Dean Appointment at the School of Medicine
Date: September 14, 2007
To friends, faculty, staff and students of the School of Medicine:
It is my great pleasure to announce to the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine community that a permanent dean is officially being named. Today, the entire campus will receive today's Case Daily with the news that I have named Pamela Bowes Davis, M.D., Ph.D. as the school's permanent dean. Dr. Davis has ably served the school as interim dean since December 2006. Her loyalty, outstanding leadership and dedication to research and teaching are the hallmarks of service that made her the lead candidate in our national search.
Please join me this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the BRB lobby so that we can celebrate this important announcement and recognize a true leader and colleague.
I would like to thank all the members of the selection committee, chaired by Dr. Jeff Ponsky, for its diligence in recommending a fine candidate who will serve the School of Medicine extremely well.
Dr. Davis is a renowned academician, researcher, administrator and physician. She holds the Arline H. and Curtis F. Garvin, M.D. Research Professor chair at the School and also is a professor of pediatrics, physiology and biophysics and a professor of molecular biology and microbiology. Her research in cystic fibrosis and her leadership of the Willard A. Bernbaum Cystic Fibrosis Research Center place Case Western Reserve University at the forefront of CF research and treatment.
Dr. Davis has maintained strong independent grant support from the NIH continuously for more than 25 years, including training grants, center grants, and individual research grants, and has served as principal investigator of a State of Ohio Third Frontier grant on nanotechnology.
I am very pleased that Pam has accepted the opportunity to continue her exemplary service as Dean of the School of Medicine. I know you share with me the great enthusiasm and support for Dr. Davis as she officially marks her position as Dean of the School of Medicine.
Sincerely,
Barbara R. Snyder
