Top Chefs across the Nation Join Together in Cleveland to Promote Cancer Research

“Cooking for a Cure” sparks science interest in Cleveland-area high school students

October 10, 2017

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and The Young Scientist Foundation will present an exciting evening of gourmet dishes and wine pairings to benefit their joint program enabling underserved Cleveland-area high school students to participate in cancer and other vital research in their community.

This year’s Cooking for a Cure, taking place at The Ritz-Carlton on October 16 at 6 p.m., will feature gourmet dishes and wine pairings from nationally and internationally recognized chefs:
• Johnny Besch (BLVD; Chicago)
• Dante Boccuzzi (Dante; Cleveland)
• Floyd Cardoz (Paowalla; New York City)
• Sarah Grueneberg (Monteverde; Cleveland) and
• Ravin Patel (Selland Family Restaurants; Sacramento)

Proceeds from the event will directly support budding researchers by placing them in Case Western Reserve School of Medicine laboratories. Here, they will have the opportunity to work alongside passionate, world-class researchers and potentially discover lifesaving treatments for future diseases.

“There are fewer young people going into the sciences and we are working to change this,” said Goutham Narla, MD, PhD, Chairman of the Board and co-founder of The Young Scientist Foundation and associate professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. “We’re committed to encouraging bright students, whatever their backgrounds, to choose careers in science, medicine and biomedicine, and this event is a key part of our tool kit.”
