GI, Nutrition, Energy, Metabolism, and Biochemistry are major unique content areas that share some affinity.

Students will analyze their own diets throughout the block.

The block will venture into areas such as the liver, obesity, and toxicity.

The pattern of immune system function in the GI tract traverses Block 3 as an overall theme.

“Spiraling” will be used to teach the basic concepts of immunology

Clinical immersion focuses on Nutrition and Metabolism and includes experiences dealing with clinical obesity, food to fuel needs in the intensive care unit patient, and nutritional challenges of patients with gastro-intestinal abnormalities.
