practice based research Network (PBRN) Shared Resource

Providing an environment in which vigorous, productive relationships are cultivated between community-based clinicians and researchers

A PBRN is a group of ambulatory practices devoted principally to the care of patients, affiliated with each other (and often with an academic or professional organization) in order to investigate questions related to community-based practice. (http://ahrq.gov/research/pbrnfact.htm)

Leadership
Mission
  • Develop and sustain PBRNs that engage in clinical research
  • Expand local and regional PBRNs, build translational linkages for PBRNs, and develop methods and supportive technologies for clinical and translational research
  • Support investigators in generating and applying new knowledge at the front lines of clinical practice
How we support Investigators
  • Start new PBRNs
  • Develop and expand the infrastructure of existing PBRNs
  • Enable collaborative clinical research within PBRNs
  • Provide PBRN methods consultations to investigators and participating practices
  • Advise and assist investigators on research project implementation in PBRNs
  • Grow a critical mass of transdisciplinary PBRN researchers through training
  • Support research efforts via Practice Enhancement Associates (PEAs). PEAs connect PBRN practices with one another, serve as liaisons between research investigators and practices, work as research assistants, and connect investigators and practices to CTSC resources. The PEAs within the PBRN Shared Resource are Dena Fisher (dena.fisher@case.edu), Michelle Hamilton (michelle.hamilton@case.edu), and Joshua Terchek (joshua.terchek@case.edu).
