From the President
These are exciting times for Case Western Reserve University and our School of Medicine. We recently announced a new Center for Science, Health and Society, an innovative collaboration with the city of Cleveland that will benefit not only our students and faculty and the residents of the city, but also persons elsewhere in the country and around the world. The center is being led by Nathan A. Berger, M.D., who led the School of Medicine through a remarkable period of growth and a flawless accreditation by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education.
Because the duties of this important position require Nates full attention, Jerold Goldberg, D.D.S., dean of the School of Dentistry, is now serving as interim dean of the School of Medicine, and Lynn Singer, Ph.D., vice provost of the university and professor of pediatrics, is serving as interim vice president for medical affairs. In the hands of these two very capable leaders, and with the active engagement of faculty leaders at the medical school, I have no doubt that the momentum at the school will continue while we conduct a national search for a new dean.
A search committee with faculty, alumni, and administrative representatives is working with us in the search for a permanent successor to Nate to serve as both dean of medicine and vice president for medical affairs. James K.V. Willson, M.D., who directs the comprehensive cancer center, is chairing the advisory committee. In addition, we have retained the national executive search firm Korn/Ferry International to assist in the search. John H. Moxley III, M.D., a former medical school dean and federal official and a principal in Korn/Ferry, is leading the firms involvement in the search. In the weeks and months ahead, the search committee will be in contact with members of the School of Medicine community to seek nominations and suggestions of persons to be considered for the position. All recommendations are welcome and may be sent to my office, where they will be forwarded to the committee.
I look forward to working with you in the wonderful tradition of medical education and research for which the School of Medicine is known.
Sincerely,

Edward M. Hundert, M.D.
President of the University
