Oath of Medical Professionalism

Students recite oath
Students recite the oath they wrote together, a new tradition.

Students matriculating in 2004-2005 crafted this oath, read it at the White Coat Ceremony, and vowed to abide by it:

We, the students of the Case School of Medicine, take this Oath of Medical Professionalism to guide us as we become the physician leaders of tomorrow. We begin our education by reflecting on the traditions of medicine and recognizing that we have been entrusted with a responsibility to our patients, our profession, our society and ourselves. We will strive to achieve mastery of medicine through a lifetime of intellectual curiosity, discipline and maturity. We will respect our patients, our colleagues, our teachers and our profession. We will earn and maintain our patients trust by respecting their confidentiality, providing them with complete and accurate information, and holding ourselves and our colleagues accountable for our actions. We will act with humility, acknowledging our limitations. We will provide impartial and compassionate care without discrimination or judgment. We will commit ourselves to leadership in public health to improve the quality and availability of medical care. Above all else, we will always act in the best interest of the patient to improve health, promote wellness and relieve suffering.
